Interim authority notice

You can apply for an interim authority notice if the current licence has:

  • become insolvent
  • become mentally incapacitated
  • died

This means the premises licence can continue while you apply to fully transfer the licence. The notice can last a maximum of 3 months.

You must apply for this within 28 days, otherwise the licence will expire you will need to apply for a new one.

You must also send a copy of the notice to the chief officer of police.

Apply for an interim authority notice

Once you give us notice, the business can continue any licensable activities permitted by the premises licence. 

The chief officer of police may object within 48 hours of receiving a copy of the notice. We’ll hold a hearing to determine the outcome of the objection.

If we do not receive an objection, we’ll issue the notice.

To get interim authority, you must live in the UK. You must also provide proof that you:

  • have a right to work in the UK
  • have no conditions that stop you doing the licenced activity
