Working in partnership

In order to deliver on our aspirations and the priorities in the Council Plan for West Oxfordshire, working collaboratively in partnership with other organisations is essential. We also form or join partnerships to help deliver some of our services, make efficiency savings, share best practice or reduce risk.

We ensure that any partnership we enter has effective governance and accountability, as well as being open and transparent about the work it is undertaking and is sufficiently resourced to ensure it can deliver on its aims.

Our Framework for Partnership Working explains how and why the Council engages in partnerships and what they must have in place for the Council to be a member, and what obligations on the Council the partnership places. It also presents a set of principles for partnership working defining the rights and responsibilities of the Council, and fellow members, to ensure that the objective of the partnership is met effectively and within the resources committed to it.

Partnership activity is monitored to ensure any risks to the Council are anticipated and managed appropriately. Risks posed are highlighted in the Strategic Risk Register which is overseen by the Senior Management Team on a bi-monthly basis and presented to Audit and Governance Committee bi-annually. In addition, a Strategic Partnership Update is presented to Full Council annually.
